What parts are in a watch?

People have been fascinated by watches for centuries. They are not only used to tell the time, but are also an expression of style, tradition and technical innovation. But what exactly is inside a watch? A look at the details reveals the impressive diversity of the individual components.

The outer elements - protection and design
The case forms the centrepiece of the outer structure. It protects the sensitive inner workings from shocks and environmental influences. The watch glass - whether mineral, sapphire or plastic - ensures that the dial remains easy to read at all times. The bezel, crown and strap complete the external appearance and also contribute to the functionality.

The inner workings - precision in the smallest of spaces
Inside a watch, the finest mechanical and electronic components work together perfectly. Gear wheels, the movement, the balance wheel and the lever escapement form a harmonious unit that is responsible for accurate timekeeping. Maximum precision is required here: even the smallest discrepancies can affect the accuracy of the time.

The functions - more than just the time
In addition to the classic hour, minute and second hands, many watches offer additional functions: Chronographs allow time intervals to be stopped, date displays make everyday life easier and modern models integrate further complications such as moon phase displays or world time functions.
